Our Classes

Katonah Yarn Company has a warm and inspirational environment where you can shop, take classes and knit. We offer helpful advice on all of your knitting projects.

Class prices do not include materials.

We ask that you pre-pay to reserve your place in class. You may register at the store or by phone using a credit card. Our phone number is: 914-977-3145. At this time, we cannot accept registration via email. Class fees are only refundable up to one week before the class start date.

If fewer than four students enroll for a class, we will need to cancel the class. If Katonah Yarn Company cancels a class for any reason we will refund payment in full.

At this time, there are no make-ups for missed classes.

This is the perfect class if you know how to knit, but feel more comfortable working on your projects with a little guidance. Peggy can help you learn new techniques, or gain confidence about the ones you already know. Students can work on any project they choose.
Anything Goes
Schedule
This is an ongoing class for knitting and crocheting on any level. Whether you're an absolute beginner, or want to learn how to finish your project properly, you will get individual attention within a small group. Pick out any yarn you like, and we'll design a custom sweater for you to knit which will fit you perfectly.
Instructional Knitting

This will be an ongoing class for knitting and crocheting. Instructional supervision will keep you on task and inspire you to new and more challenging projects.
Sit and Knit/Crochet

What could be a better way to start the week than around the table at Katonah Yarn Company? Following up on our successful mini Crochet retreat Liz Kaplan is offering a series of Monday classes for both the crocheter and the knitter in the relaxing atmosphere of the store while it is closed for regular business. Bring your project and your questions and prepare to relax!
Moebius Workshop
Schedule
Learn to create one of the most versatile accessories for the new fall season – a moebius.  This knitted scarf transforms into a cowl, head warmer, or drape it over your shoulders. This class includes a pattern complete with a description of the unique cast-on.
Entrelac Workshop
Schedule
Let Peggy unravel the mystery of Entrelac! Entrelac is a way of knitting to create a basketweave effect. This 3 hour workshop will have you knitting entrelac with ease!
Lace Workshop

“Damson” is one of the newest shawls by the Scottish designer, Ysolda Teague.  It’s a pretty, simple little shawl requiring just one skein of sock yarn, that’s fun to knit and easy to wear.  It’s a perfect introduction to knitting lace!  OR, for the experienced knitter, it offers a quick project that will drape around your shoulders when spring comes.
Socks on Two Circular Needles
Schedule
Socks are fun to knit and extremely portable. Peggy can show you how to knit them on two circulars. Caution: once you start knitting socks, you may never stop! Pattern included.
Finishing Workshop
Schedule
In this workshop, we will demonstrate a variety of finishing techniques such as seam sewing, picking up stitches, 3-needle bind off, crochet edgings, etc. Materials: 2 stockinette swatches (aprox. 4 inches each) and 2 garter swatches (aprox. 4 inches each) Please block both swatches. Yarn and gauge do not matter. We will be happy to answer any questions you have about other knitting techniques, so be sure to bring a list! Limited space.
Learn to Cable
Schedule
Learn the basics of cabling.  Bring your own project with cables or get ideas from patterns in the store / on line / in books.  Ideas may include a simple baby sweater with one cable down the front, a lap blanket with a repeating cable pattern, a hat with repeating cable or fingerless gloves with a cable.  This won't be the class for making Arans or multiple different cables, but an introduction to cabling and how simple it truly is.Bring your project and your questions and prepare to relax.

Take a private one hour lesson with Peggy. Learn to knit, re-acquaint yourself with an unfinished project, get help with finishing, learn a new technique... it's up to you. This is a one-on-one, one hour lesson... your time, your day. Call for availability.
Private Moebius Class
Schedule
By popular demand, we are now offering a private technique classes. Learn how to create one of the hottest accessories in knitting – the Moebius. A scarf knit from the center out on circular needles with no seams and one continuous flowing edge. This magical twisted loop transforms from scarf, to cowl, to hat, to shrug and back again in seconds. It's a wardrobe must-have as practical as it is beautiful.

Instructors

Mary Peck
Mary Peck has had several careers and vast experiences including vocal music teacher, missionary in southern Africa, Facilities Manager and personal assistant. She recently completed an extensive program in Reflexology and is almost finished with national certification requirements. Mary has been knitting for about 5 years beginning when a wise friend advised, "Don't learn to knit, learn to knit well." Attention to detail and getting it right has provided joy and pain on the knitting path. Mary loves to teach and wishes to inspire others to knit well.
